Protect Brown

Effective, long-lasting surface protection for load-bearing structures and rafters

  • Slows down moisture absorption and mold growth on the treated surface
  • Penetrates deeply into the wood

Colour: Light brown. Protect Brown is not intended for decorative treatment of wooden surfaces; its brownish tint serves as an indicator to ensure the treated surface is visible.

Consumption: 8…10 m²/L – planed board, 4…6 m²/L – sawn board, 30…60 L/m³ – dipping method. Maximum wood protection is achieved at a consumption rate of 0.2 L/m².

Drying time: 1…2 hours at a temperature of +23 °C and relative humidity of 50%, depending on weather conditions, wood type, and layer thickness.

Volume: 2,7 L – 4,5 L – 9 L

Properties

Solvent-based wood preservative for timber structures.

  • Penetrates wood effectively
  • Slows down moisture absorption and mold growth on the treated surface
  • Suitable for both indoor and outdoor wooden surfaces
  • Can be used for treating wooden structures exposed to direct sunlight (fences, posts, boat decks, etc.)
  • Not suitable for treating wooden structures in direct contact with water or soil
  • Do not use for treating open structures located indoors
  • The treated surface remains light brown and does not require overpainting. If desired, the surface can be painted over 3 months after treatment
  • Provides protection for wooden structures: indoors – for the lifetime of the structure; outdoors – inspection recommended every 5 years

EU VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) content limit values: subcategory h – 750 g/L. Maximum VOC content in the ready-to-use product: < 750 g/L.

Conditions of use for wood:

  • Use Class 3 according to standard EN 335

Purpose

New or old undamaged wooden roof load-bearing structures (rafters, wall plates), floor and ceiling beams, and other concealed constructions where decorative treatment is not required. Suitable for treating and protecting wood material in humid environments, such as structures in contact with foundations. Can be used for outdoor treatment of wooden structures exposed to direct sunlight (fences, posts, boat decks, etc.). Do not use for treating open indoor structures or wooden surfaces in direct contact with water or soil.

Types of surfaces

New untreated or old undamaged wooden surfaces and wooden structures. Suitable for both sawn and planed surfaces. Do not use on surfaces with biological damage.

Surface preparation before treatment

The wooden surface to be treated must be dry; the wood moisture content must not exceed 20%. The appropriate working temperature is above +5 °C, with a permissible relative humidity of up to 80%. The surface to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned of sawdust, dust, grease, old paint, oil, wax, and other contaminants. Decayed, rotten, or fungus-damaged wooden parts must be replaced with new ones. Surfaces affected by blue stain fungi or mold must be pre-treated with WoodClean wood cleaner or with a mold remover such as Biotol E or Biotol Spray (see packaging for instructions). Previously treated surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned using a scraper, stiff-bristled brush, hot air gun, or OPS Pro paint remover. Replace rotten boards with new ones. Galvanized fasteners are recommended for securing wooden elements. Untreated metal parts must be protected against rust before use. Work should not be carried out during rain or fog, in hot weather, or in direct sunlight. Pay attention to constructive wood protection methods – proper drainage, ventilation, and waterproofing of walls and roof.

Application

The product is ready to use. Do not dilute! Stir thoroughly before use and during application. Apply to the surface with a brush along the wood grain several times using the “wet-on-wet” method until the wood is fully saturated or use the dipping method. Suitable working temperature is +5…30 °C. Avoid use in hot (above +30 °C) and windy weather, as rapid solvent evaporation prevents deep penetration of the product. To ensure uniform color tone, select products from the same batch. When using products from different batches, it is recommended to mix them together before use. Pay special attention to impregnating end grains and surfaces exposed to moisture. Maximum protection is achieved with a consumption rate of 0.2 L/m². If desired, surfaces treated with Protect Brown may be painted or re-impregnated, but not earlier than 3 months after treatment.

Tools

Brush, dipping method.

Tool cleaning

Clean tools with White Spirit.

Waste treatment

Avoid or minimize the generation of residues. Do not pour into the sewage system. Prevent release into the environment. Dispose of as chemical waste in accordance with applicable regional waste legislation. Liquid residues must be delivered to a hazardous waste collection point (Paint and varnish waste containing organic solvents or other hazardous substances – waste code 08 01 11). Information about collection points is provided by the local municipality or the Environmental Board. Dried residues may be placed in household waste containers. Empty, dry packaging must be taken to a packaging waste collection point for recycling (Waste code 15 01). Before recycling, returned containers must be properly cleaned, code 15 01.
