Types of surfaces for painting

New or previously painted surfaces made of concrete, aerated concrete and asbestos-cement as well as plastered surfaces. Recommended for façade thermal insulation systems using mineral wool and polystyrene foam. Suitable for finishing surfaces that are frequently exposed to elements (for instance, socles). Recommended for use in industrial zones, seaside areas and rainy or snowy regions. Not suitable for surfaces treated with lime and silicate products (plaster or paints).

Surface preparation before painting

The surface to be painted must be carefully cleaned from peeling material, loose material, salt efflorescence, dirt, dust, grease and oils. Pressure washing or sandblasting is recommended to remove the old coating entirely and eliminate major fouling. Reinforcement and other metal elements must be cleaned from rust, coated with antirust primer immediately and cemented.

The surfaces that get wet so often that mould can develop there must be treated with Biotol E or Biotol Spray before painting. Non-porous smooth surfaces must be sanded to provide roughness. Small cracks, cavities and holes must be filled with the non-cement Face Filler putty and painted in 3–14 days depending on the thickness of the applied putty coating. We recommend curing new concrete structures and freshly plastered surfaces for one heating season before painting. In case cement or cement-lime mortar has been used for façade repairs, the repaired surface must be cured for at least 1 month before painting.

Application

Stir the paint thoroughly before application. Mixing a large quantity of the product in one container is recommended for ensuring that the colour of large surfaces is even. The surface to be painted must be dry and clean, air temperature must be above +5 °C, and relative humidity must not exceed 80%.
The paint can be diluted with water in the amount of up to 5% of its volume for the application of the first coat.

Care for the painted surface

The coating will reach its peak wash resistance in about 4 weeks: during this period, treat the surface with care until its hardness and wash resistance have reached their peak levels.
If necessary, the surface can be lightly wiped with a soft sponge or cloth approximately 48 hours after paint application. We recommend using water and neutral or medium alkaline detergents (pH below 9).

Do not use organic solvents, abrasive cleansers and hard scrubbing brushes or sponges. Use Biotol E and Biotol Spray to remove mould.

Safety precautions

The product is not classified as dangerous according to CLP Regulation (EC) no 1272/2008. Warning! Hazardous respirable droplets may be formed when sprayed. Do not breathe spray or mist. Contains 1,2- benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, 2-methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one, 4,5-dichloro-2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one, reaction mass of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (3:1). May produce an allergic reaction. If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand. Keep out of reach of children. Do not eat or drink during the process, washing hands afterwards with suitable cleaning products. As a preventative measure it is recommended to use basic personal protection equipment.
